Genaro  Robles

Genaro “Gene” Cuellar Robles, 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer on August 12, 2013.  Born in New Gulf, Texas on July 6, 1931 to Genaro and Cleotilde Robles, he lived most of his life in Texas City, Texas.

Gene joined the Air Force following his high school graduation in 1949 where he was a Master Sergeant stationed in Dover Delaware during the Korean War.  He married the love of his life, Lucy Garcia, on December 23, 1951 at Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Texas City.  Following his discharge from the Air Force in 1953, he and Lucy moved to Texas City where he went to school to become a pipefitter.  He worked construction for ten years and then was hired by Monsanto/Sterling Chemical Company and worked there until he retired in 1994.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 52 years in Texas City and became a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Louisville.

Gene loved the outdoors and spending time at Garner State Park and New Braunfels where he loved dancing polkas with Lucy.  He loved working in his yard, cooking, swimming, and spending time with his family.  He was thrilled to have been able to meet his two favorite musical artists – Flaco Jimenez who performed at his and Lucy’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration in Texas City and Willie Nelson in 2011 in Louisville, KY. 

Gene was a gentle, kind, honest man who was extremely loving and proud of his family.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucy Garcia Robles of Louisville, KY; his three daughters, Sonya Cotton and Velda Schalk of Louisville, KY and Lisa Jordan (Scott) of Bend, OR; his five grandchildren, Craig Cotton (Tammy) and Carly Cotton of Louisville, KY, Tara Jordan of Bend, OR, Kevin Jordan of Portland, OR, and Christopher Schalk of San Antonio, TX; and five great-grandchildren, Tori Jude of Mt. Sterling, KY, Grant Jordan of Bend, OR, and Ethan, Nolan and Will Cotton of Louisville, KY.  He is also survived by his three siblings, Adolph Robles (Helen) of Victoria, TX, Valentina San Miguel (Jesse) of Wharton, TX, and Isabella Ramirez of Corpus Christi, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Genaro Robles, Sr. and Cleotilde Cuellar Robles, his brothers, Manuel, Rudy and Antonio Robles, and his sisters, Rebecca Pena and Luisa Gonzalez.

Pallbearers are Stephen & Craig Cotton of Louisville, KY; Ron & Christopher Schalk of San Antonio, TX; and Scott & Kevin Jordan of Bend/Portland, OR.  Honorary Pallbearers are Adolph Robles of Victoria, TX, Roger Valdez of Santa Fe, TX, and Richard Rodriguez & Leslie Melghem of Texas City, TX.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers, especially the staff of Hosparus, Amedisys, Park Terrace Nursing Home, and Signature South. 

The family will receive s on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Carnes Funeral Homes at 3100 Gulf Freeway in Texas City.  Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Mary of the Miraculous Metal Catholic Church in Texas City, TX at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013. Following Mass, Gene will be laid to rest at Mt.
