Fritz Grueneberg, 87, of Victoria passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018. He was born November 9, 1930 in Villingen, Germany to the late Erhard and Anna Feihs Grueneberg. Fritz was a master of many trades: electrician, mechanic, carpenter, inventor, musician and an amazing dancer.
After arriving in America in 1959 Fritz moved his family to Victoria, Texas, where he worked for Gladden Pontiac. He then opened a gas station and did mechanic work while playing music in the evenings. He eventually opened the Heidelberg dance hall with his brother, Hermann. In 1965 he opened his own mechanic shop, Fritz’s Auto Center, specializing in imports. He retired in 2014. His partner, Craig Lester, still runs the business today.
Fritz is survived by his partner of thirty years, Marie Krause; brother, Adolph Grueneberg; sister, Hanni Rimmele, both of Germany; son, Ralph Grueneberg (Pam); daughter, Edith Garcia (Joe); grandsons, Ryan and Justin Wilkins; granddaughters, Gina Eliot (Jason) and Lainie Garcia; three great-grandsons, Kase, Kole and Konor Eliot all of Victoria; also survived by Charity and Colby Horton and Damien. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Juergen Grueneberg; daughter, Inge Wilkins; five brothers and one sister.
Our dear Fritz, you taught us how to have a good time, to smile and laugh. You passed down your love of music and your exceptional smarts. You are loved and missed. Rest in peace.
