Fernando "Penny" Perez
Fernando "Penny" Perez, of Galveston, Texas, was born on December 4, 1948. He was born in Donna, Texas to Juan and Juana Perez. Penny bravely and honorably served our country in the Vietnam War as a soldier in US Army Infantry. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1 Campaign Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Overseas Service Bars, Air Medal, Expert Badge (M16), and the Bronze Star.
He was a retired US Postal Supervisor who enjoyed his retirement with his love of golf. Penny loved his wife, Margie, of 36 years, and was an amazing father to 3 children. He was a generous and kind person, and a friend to all. His laughter and joy will be deeply missed, but always remembered.
On July 31, 2020, Penny, 71 years old, passed away at UTMB League City Campus Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife and children as he was taken peacefully home after a lengthy battle with Covid-19 and pneumonia.
Penny was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Juana; brothers, Ralph and Tico; sisters Tina, Marta, and Magdelena. He will be cherished and survived by his loving wife, Margie; his three children, Gina and husband Donnie Higgs, Jeray and wife Jenni Perez, and Amanda and husband Nnamdi Oparanozie; his grandchildren, Jerae, Madysen, Conor, Kaylee, Seth, Nnamdi III, Renee, Kylee, Amara, and Olanna; his sisters, Chavela, Gavina, Ninfa, Lola, Linda, and Vicky; and his brother, Marcus; all his many in-laws, nieces and nephews, his golf buddies, and VFW family.

Viewing will be Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10-11am with funeral service at 11-noon @ Carnes Funeral Home at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas. Graveside service to immediately follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery at 7301 Memorial St., Hitchcock, Texas 77563.
A Celebration of Life for Penny will be held at a later date.
