Faye Elizabeth Oliver-Stewart, age 71 was called by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 7th, 2018. Faye is the 3rd born and oldest daughter of the late Thomas Lee Oliver Sr. and Pearl Louise Britton Oliver. Born on December 13, 1946 in Galveston, Texas Faye attended in the La Marque school district. Faye was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School. She participated in drill team, tennis team, and voted the most Athletic girl. After graduating high school, she entered Wiley College where she met and married her soul mate and the love of her life, David W. Stewart on July 5th, 1969. Faye held a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education. After moving to La Marque, she started a certification program for Kindergarten Endorsement and continued her education at UH and obtained a Master of Science in Early childhood in 1975.
 
Faye worked In the Texas City School District for over forty years. During her years of being an Educator. She taught kindergarten for seven years where she introduced the first kindergarten graduation and the first progress report in Texas City School district. She spent the remaining 35 years teaching second grade. Throughout her time at Kohfeldt Elementary Faye was voted teacher of the year several times by her peers, in 2001 she was selected to receive the Black Educators Distinguish Educator award.
 
Faye loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was affectionately known as Maw Maw by all of grandchildren and other loved ones. She was kind, loving, giving, and always willing to help in any way she could. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, art, studying the daily words, reading her bible, and spreading the word of God.  
 
Faye is survived by her husband, the love of her life, companion, friend, her precious children Latonia (Tony) and David (Denetrice). Her grandchildren Jordan Holmes, Da’Nacious Holmes, Dazha Stewart, and Damerious Stewart. Her siblings Thedro David Oliver (Shirlene), James Oliver (Sybil), and Denice Callis. Her sister in law Carol and a host of very dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
 
A Public Visitation will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 2:00 PM.  Both Services will be at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church 7420 FM 1765 Texas City, TX 77591.  Burial will be Monday at Forest Park East Webster, TX.  Memorials may be sent to the Funeral Home.
