Eugene McLendon

Eugene Allen McLendon of Waelder, Texas went to be with God after fighting a heart condition for four years. Mac served in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran.  He was stationed on the Command Cruiser USS Northampton CCI.  Mac graduated from the Seamen Institute in New York, New York.  He then started a long career as Chief Engineer.  He worked on the Governors Island Ferry, Jamestown Ferry in Surry, Virginia. He came to Galveston Ferry for twenty-three years and retired. He also worked on the Colonel in Galveston.

 Mac loved to travel and explore the USA.   When he got bored, he went to work for G & H Towing.  He then decided to go back to college at Kingspoint, Maryland.   Later he worked on the diving boats then finally left with the title of Master Chief Engineer.   Mac was a hard worker and a great friend to all.  His passion was horses and model trains. 

He is survived by his wife, Kathie McLendon of fifty-eight years; daughter, Angie Brunton and husband John Brunton; son, Roger Mclendon and wife Heather; granddaughter, Patricia Nicole Russell and Husband Chief Engineer William Russell USCG; grandsons, August Allen Eacho and wife Holly Eacho, Kendall Eacho US Navy EO2, Drake Garnsey and Gage Garnsey; granddaughter, Jordan DeGidio and husband Chris; grandson, Ryan McLendon and Wade Anderwall; granddaughters, Sarah McLendon, Halie McLendon, Megan McLendon and sixteen great- grandchildren. Mac helped 179 foster children…Mac touched a lot of lives. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Bernard Eugene McLendon who gave his life for his country in World War at the age of twenty-four on the submarine, USS Kete, that was never found, daughter, Rhonda Garnsey;  great-granddaughter, Avery Eacho; mother, Elizabeth Rodgers and sister, Patricia Huntley.  

Mac will be sadly missed by all.

Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City.
