Eileen Wong, age 88, of Friendswood, TX passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018. She was born in a village outside of Canton in Guangdong province on February 19, 1930. She joined the George Wong Troupe, a group of acrobatic entertainers who traveled around the world. She met her eventual husband, Jack, in Juarez, Mexico in 1954 at the Chinese Palace. Jack was in the Jim Wong Troupe, another circus acrobatic act. They corresponded by mail, and met several times a year. It was a match made in circus heaven. They wed in 1957 in NYC and she became part of the Jim Wong Troupe. They traveled around the U.S. in the Gil Gray Circus up until 1966. In 1966, the family opened the House of Wong Restaurant in Dallas, Texas. She worked as waitress, cashier, wonton maker and house keeper at the restaurant until 1980, when the restaurant closed.
She retired upon the closing of the restaurant, but her work was not finished. She studied hard and eventually became a U.S. citizen on July 30, 1985. She continued to be a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother .
Mrs. Wong is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack Wong; her son, Dr. Danny Wong and friend, Dr. Kinuyo Henderson; grandsons James Wong and his friend Madeline Sinopoli, John Wong and his wife Lindsay Wong; sister-in-law Betty Leung, brother-in-law Bill Wong and wife Eleanor Wong; several nieces; great grandson, Lincoln James Wong and adopted daughter, Heather East Fleming and her family.
A private memorial will be held at her son's home in Houston, Texas on Saturday, March 24, 2018. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
