Edward Owen Barber
Edward (Ed) Owen Barber passed peacefully from this life on, Friday, June 15, 2018 from complications of esophageal cancer. The eldest son of Phillip and Gwynn Barber, Ed was born October 3, 1968 in Murray, Kentucky and was a graduate of Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina and North Carolina State University (NCSU) where he was a brother in the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity. A long-term resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, he relocated with his family in 2015 to Sugar Land, Texas.
Ed was a self-taught electric bass guitar player, an avid music collector and performer, a lifelong Kentucky Wildcats Basketball fan, a member of the NCSU Wolfpack Club, and a recent convert to the Houston Astros. His passions also included collecting Star Trek and Star Wars memorabilia and regular family vacations to Disney World. Ed is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sloan and daughter Nora Jane; his mother Gwynn; his brother Scott and his wife Lisa; his nieces, Eleanor and Chloe; and nephews, Nathan and Jacob; Sloan’s parents Tommy and Phyllis Brawley; Sloan’s Brother Scott Brawley, along with numerous extended aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A small memorial service is planned for June 30, 2018 at Christ Church 3300 Austin Parkway Sugar Land, Texas 77479. Drop in reception to follow immediately after service at the home of Scott and Lisa Barber. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one of the following:
