SGM Edward Brown Jr. US Army Retired

On April 22, 2013 Edward Brown Jr. went to be with the Lord.  He was the eldest child born to the patronage of Edward Brown Sr. and Bernice Bell-Brown in Galveston, Texas in 1941. Edward lived in Hitchcock, Texas, where he was a proud member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since 1990. Edward was married to the love of his life of fifty years, Juanita and to this union they parented four children; Sharon Bickham (Darryl), Pamela Brown-Matthis (James), Derrick Brown and Yolanda Brown. Edward was a devoted Christian. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and was re-baptized at St. Leo‘s Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1990. Edward was also a dedicated, husband, father, grandfather and great-grand father.
 
Edward Brown Jr. graduated from Central High School in 1960.  He enlisted into the United States Army in September 6, 1960.During his enlistment, he served two terms in the Vietnam War. While enlisted he obtained the rank of Sergeant Major (SGM). He received his Associates Degree from Sgt. Major’s Academy in El Paso, Texas in 1983. Also during his enlistment, he was awarded many medals of honor including two time Purple Heart recipient, Bronze Star Medal for his Distinguished Service in the US Army, Air Medal Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Special Service Medal Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Master Parachuter, Ranger and Army Good Conduct Medal. Edward was the Middle Heavyweight Boxing Champion of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky in 1962-1963. Having a desire to move closer to home, Edward and his wife Juanita retired in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1990 and moved to Hitchcock, Texas to build their new home. Among his interests and hobbies were traveling with his family, gardening, art collecting, and spending time with his familyAbove all Edward lived a full life dedicating himself to his faith, his family and to his country.
 
Edward was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward and Bernice Brown; sister Doris Brown and brother Marvin Brown. Edward leaves to cherish his memory his dear wife Juanita Brown, loving mother-in-law Rose Young, aunt-in-law Carrie Finley, 4 children, 11 grand children; Shana Bickham, Edward Brown, Jason Brown, Devon Bickham, Jordan Matthis, Patrick Brown, Nicholas Hosmanek, Brittney Hosmanek, Leonard Goins, James Matthis IV, Brianna Goins, one great-grandson Jaeden Brown, a brother Joseph Lee Brown, a sister Barbara Jean Hightower, two brother-in-laws Christopher Young (Marilyn) and Gregory Young and numerous nieces, nephews, family and many dear friends.
 
A public viewing will be held Monday April 29, 2013 from 4PM until 5:30PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a Eulogy/Rosary will immediately follow at 5:30PM, also there will be a mass at 6 PM Monday evening. Interment will be the following day at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas at 10 AM. Memorial to the Funeral Home.
