GALVESTON   Earl Howard Carpenter, Sr. age 89, formerly of Galveston, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Graveside services with honors are 10:00 am Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Houston National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 I-45 North Texas City, Texas 77591 on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  

Earl was born May 26, 1926 in Muskegon, Michigan to Marion Reniff Carpenter and Gretchen Marie Gustafson Carpenter. He married his beloved wife Betty on January 17, 1947. Earl served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years during WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate, 2nd Class, Plane Captain PBM-5 Navy Seaplane. He was also a Flotilla Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Baton Rouge.  He earned his degrees from the University of Texas and the University of Houston. Earl was a Registered Civil Engineer in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee and a Licensed Land Surveyor in Texas. He was the owner and President of Process Services, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana an Engineering and Construction Company for Refineries, Chemical Plants, Pipelines and Offshore Oil Facilities.  He and his late wife Betty were members of Moody Methodist Church in Galveston. He was a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Legion Post 20 and a Life Member of the VFW Post 880. He was a member and Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3719 in Crystal Beach.
 

Preceded in death by his parents and wife of 68 years Betty Jo Carpenter; survivors include daughters, Barbara Jean Hancock and husband Lynn and Sherry S. Hancock and husband Leslie; sons, Earl H. Carpenter, Jr. and wife Cappie and Donald W. Carpenter and wife Debbie; sisters, Margaret Gibson and Barbara Grace Stevens; brother, Allen Benjamin Carpenter; grandchildren, Lynn Hancock, Jr., Brandye Hancock, Jenny Crawford, Mandy Duncan, Jacob Carpenter, Travis Carpenter, Melanie Carpenter, Jason Hancock and Kristen White; great grandchildren, Colt White, Kaleigh White, Hylie Hancock, Baleigh Hancock, Lauren Fregia, Allen Crawford, Sean Crawford, Miranda Duncan, Jamie Duncan, Caleb Carpenter, Aubrey Carpenter, Ezra Carpenter and Joe Moreno; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Lynn Hancock, Jr., Jason Hancock, Joe Bob White, Travis Carpenter, Jacob Carpenter and Seth Duncan. Honorary Pallbearers are Leslie Hancock, Lynn Hancock, Sr., Joe David Moreno, Colt White, Sean Crawford, Allen Crawford and Caleb Carpenter.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project.
