Doris Leverton

The heavenly gate opened Sunday, May 15, 2011 for Doris, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother aunt and friend.  On February 17, 1928, a healthy beautiful baby girl was born in Jeanerette, LA to Thomas and Mamie Brew Williams.  She spent her childhood days and attended public school in Jeanerette, LA.

Doris left home early and moved to Galveston, TX and remained there until her health forced her and her husband to move to Texas City, TX with their daughter Tona and her husband Bural Walker.  While in Galveston, she was a member of Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

Doris dedicated her life to her family as homemaker, and she dearly loved her family.  She not only enjoyed cooking, she was an excellent cook.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Robert Lee Leverton, Jr.; 3 sisters, 9 brothers and a grandson, Toby Leverton.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Tona (Bural) Walker, Sr.,

O. G. Walker, Jr. (Vernelda), Arthur Leverton and Lydia Leverton; sister, Marion Williams; grandchildren, Bural Walker, Jr., Ardwyn Walker, Tyson Walker, Sr., and Nicole Leverton; great grandchildren, Tyson Walker, Jr., Alexis Waters and a host of other relatives and friends.

A public visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM followed by a Life Celebration Service at 1:00 PM.  Both services will be held at Carnes Funeral Home Chapel 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591.  A reception for family and friends will follow the services also in the Family Facility at Carnes Funeral Home.  Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, TX.  Reverend Dexter Henderson, Pastor, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Galveston, TX will conduct the services.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the many friends that visited and sent condolences or extended other forms of sympathy and concerns during this time of our deepest sorrow.  May God bless and keep you.  Flowers, memorials and other expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Funeral Home.  These arrangements have been entrusted to Dorthea Jones, Funeral Director and the competent, caring staff of Carnes Funeral Home.
