Mrs. Doris Jean Holbert entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Mainland Medical Center Hospital in Texas City, TX at the age of 81.

Mrs. Holbert was born on April 6, 1934 in Galveston, Texas to Curley Spikes and Laura Samuel Spkies. Mrs. Holbert  retired as a Chef after many years of service. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and caring for others with the utmost respect and integrity.

Mrs. Holbert was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Joe D. Holbert after 42 years of marriage; her parents Curley Spikes and Laura Samuel Spikes; her sister, Shirley Spikes; aunts, Carrie McMahon, Beatrice Waldon, Massalene Nash, and Minnie Adams; uncles, Rufus Samuel Jr., Carl C. Samuel, and Grady Samuel.

Mrs. Holbert is survived by her children Barbara Wyche, Patsy Spikes, and Willie Hunt; grandchildren Tonia Spikes (Keith McGaskey), Monique Young, Sonya Wyche, LaToya Jordan (Elliott Jordan), and Vincent Wyche Jr., Courtney Hendricks, Bryian Hendricks, Shay Sumlin, Candis Hendricks, Sean Hunt, Kesean Broussard, Cody Holden, Shermone Simmons, Willie Hunt Jr., Joe Hunt, and Lamar Hunt; great – grandchildren Amber Spikes, Taja Porter, Tylee Spikes - McCardell, Mario Stafford, Alex Sneed, Patricia Sneed, Jaelin Hayes Benefield, Jada Benefield, Jayla Benefield, Jahara Hayes Benefield II, Cameron Jordan, Tristen Jordan, Erian Jordan; devoted brother-in-law and caretaker Ernest Holbert; other nieces; nephews; many relatives and friends.

Special thanks to the medical staff at Mainland Medical Center Hospital for their professional care and concern during the time Mrs. Holbert spent there.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00pm at Carnes Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery Hitchcock, TX .  Condolences may be sent to the funeral home.
