Donald Wayne Conaway
Donald Wayne “Don” Conaway, 75, passed from this life May 22, 2016 to rejoin family and friends on the street of glory, He was born March 31, 1941 to John Calvin and Jimmie Dee in Lorraine, Texas. He spent part of his pre-school years in Westbrook, Texas on the Conaway ranch. He fondly regaled tails of his grandma shooting rabbits from her hip while carrying the water pail from the well, and other ranch life tails. The family moved from West Texas, Midland, to South Texas, every school year was a new school, until attending Clear Creek High School. He worked summers in construction and as a helper in the painter’s local. The only child to graduate from high school, even after quitting for a year. Going to California to move older brother mustering out of the Navy, staying to work at machine shops on Nasa contracts. Returning to Clear Creek to Graduate in 1961 and completing an Auto Mechanics course from Alvin JR College.
He worked for Clear Creek ISD, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota and VW dealerships around the Galveston-Houston area, Arizona and California. Then trading tools for a steering-wheel driving trucks local and cross-country. His passion was always tinkering with engines and racing cars, street, drags, 8 track, dirt and round track, and Casual family get together.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin and Jimmie Dee; brothers, Jim Calvin and Johnny Leon and daughter, Sandra Dee.
Survived by daughters, Terri and husband Melvin; grandson, Ethan Bergen; daughter, Mona Husband Chris; granddaughter, Kaya Lee; sister, Nancy and husband Richard Ennis; niece, Tonya and nephews, Matthew Conway, and Gary Conaway.
Memorial Services to be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 11:00am at City Mark Church 231 W Main St. League City, Texas 77573, Then Private Graveside.
