Donald Russell Jones
Donald Russell Jones was born July 31, 1928 in Iola, Texas to Arden Crawford Jones and Francis Elizabeth Pyle, and he died May 3rd, 2018in Montgomery, Texas.
Don graduated high school at age 17, from Grimes Switch School in Iola, Texas in 1945. Upon graduating he went right to work, helping his father walking the pipelines in Central Texas. He also enjoyed cowboying, roping and working cattle on local ranches. In 1950, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served in the Korean War. After the war, Don moved to Pasadena, Texas and went to work on the Houston Ship channel as a pipefitter, for 33 years. During this time, he married and had two children.
Don was a lifelong cowboy, and never met a stranger. He chose to retire back to Iola, where he enjoyed raising horses and cattle, and reminiscing about his rodeo days with his many friends.
Don is preceded by his parents, and his son, Donald Casey Jones. He is also preceded by two half siblings, Cecil Bess and Marcie Bess. He is survived, by his sister Ethyl Johnson, from Shepard, Texas; his only daughter, Tracie Bollig, and husband Jim, granddaughter Selena Harmon Daniels, and husband Ned, and their son, Dylan, his great grandson, all from Montgomery, Texas.
Funeral preparations performed by Carnes Funeral Homes, and a simple graveside service will be held May 19th, 2018 at 10:30 at Lake Grove Cemetery in Iola, Texas where Don will be buried by his parents. All are welcome to attend.
A heartfelt “Thank You” to his friends, and family who took the time to visit him during his illness with dementia associated with congestive heart failure. Special thanks to Bristol Hospice, for the wonderful loving care he received by the entire staff under the supervision of Chris Osborn, most especially his nurse, Karen Holstin, and Social Worker, Beth Hodges; and all the visiting Chaplains, and Certified Aides, especially dads, sweet friend Burleigh.
