Don Stewart was born in Pioneer, Missouri on December 28, 1923. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edna Mae; daughters, Brenda and Karla; and five grandchildren. Brenda and Joe Giles live in Dickinson, Texas. Karla and Steve Stocks live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His grandchildren are John, Allison, and Michael Stocks; Jennifer and her husband Grant Kemper; and Joe D. and his wife Caitlin Giles. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Wanda Stewart and Francis Yates, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don grew up the middle son of William Franklin “Jack” and Ella May (Stark) Stewart. His parents and siblings, George, Gwen, Bernard, Bonnie and Jack Jr., have all preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He retired from Kraft Foods after 30 years of work.
He invested in children through Boy Scouts of America, Future Farmers of America, and a bus ministry. At church he served as both Sunday School Director and a Deacon and took great joy in delivering Bibles to school children through The Gideons.
He was also a talented carpenter, loved dominos, and knew how to tell a joke. Above all this, he had a servant’s heart. His family and faith were his greatest treasures.
He will be buried at Muncie Chapel Cemetery in Wheaton, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made through The Gideons Memorial Bibles.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591
