Derrick Wilcox

Derrick La Dale’ Wilcox was born on October 5, 1973,in Galveston, Texas to Marvin and Alice Wilcox. He was educated in the public schools of La Marque, Texas, and graduated from La Marque High School in 1993. He later moved to Bay City, Texas the community and city he loved. Derrick was outgoing and lived his life to the fullest. He aspired to be a truck driver and after receiving his CDL and certifications he started a career in truck driving. 

    His children and family were his heartbeats that kept him going in life, especially his granddaughter De’ira. Derrick’s daughter’s Destiny and Ke’myria brought him great pride and happiness in his life. He also surrounded himself with family and devoted friends and made sure that everyone always had a good time around him. Other hobbies he loved to do was fishing, traveling, and watching his favorite movies.


    Derrick is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Wilcox Sr., grandparents Earl and Annie Wilcox, Spencer and Ella Green, his uncle Edward Wilcox, his aunts Zella Jackson, Irene Hynson, Audrey Zachary, Charlotte Wilcox, and Arlene Taylor. 

    Left to cherish Derrick’s memories are his children, Destiny Burnett (De’Andre), Ke’myria Wilcox, and his mother Alice Wilcox and Alma LaDay; siblings, Kevin Wilcox (Christina), Marvin Wilcox Jr. (Danielle), Mario LaDay (LaNita) Corian LaDay, Shereka LaDay, Christopher Ealim; grandchild, De’ira Burnett, a host of many relatives and special cousins; Theron Taylor, Lloyd Taylor, and Kevin Perry.

            Guests are invited to share in a Celebration of Life Visitation from 9-10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, TX 77591. Funeral Services will start at 10:00 a.m., with Interment to follow at 2:00 p.m in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.
