Bro. David Towns was the tenth child born to George and Callie Towns on August 10, 1931 in Crandall, Texas.
The family moved to Terrell, Texas in 1944, where David attended Burnett Grammar School. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Army and served active two years and an additional six years in the US Army Reserve. He was honorably discharge on October 31, 1960. After actively serving for two years in the Army, he participated in a program at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas for servicemen to complete their High School education. He completed the program’s required courses in 1955. Afterwards, he continued to study Theology the Bible at Southwestern Christian College. Prior to obtaining his degree he moved to Houston, Texas.
After moving to Houston, David held several positions with various companies including driving trucks for 20+ years. He later worked as a janitor for TSU until he retired.
David accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church. Shortly after moving to Houston, he joined Holman Street Baptist Church. He was very active in Sunday School and City Wide Brotherhood until his health failed.
He was once married to Wilma Jean Lewis. From this union, one child was born: Deanna.
David made his Heavenly transition on June 2, 2018 at Mission Care Centers.
He was proceeded in death by his parents – George and Callie Towns; five brothers – G.W., CB, Cleveland, Willie King, and Joe Nathan; and five sisters – Mamie, Hattie Mae, Bessie Mae, Priscilla, and Juanita. He is survived by one daughter – Deanna R. Lewis; one sister - Villa Sue Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
There will be a public visitation held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Holman Baptist Church at 9am with service to start at 10am located at 3501 Holman, Houston Texas 77041. Burial will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11am in Terrel Texas at the New Oakwood Cemetery.
