Do not fear I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God.

I will strengthen and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.    Isaiah 41:10

David Ross Pomeroy, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2019

David was born in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph Hospital, on December 13, 1950. He was second son of James and Mary Pomeroy. David attended Sam Houston High School, in Pasadena, Tx, were he played football and baseball.  Upon graduation in 1969, he attended Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, as well as San Jacinto College and the University of Houston.  He majored in Accounting, however spent most of his years of work in grocery retail. He worked for Safeway, Apple Tree, and eventually was a Store Director at HEB.

David married Rhonda Jones on June 29, 1974, after dating for three years.  Over the next few years they welcomed Stephanie and Derek into the family.  David enjoyed all types of sports.  He loved to golf with both friends and strangers he met at the course.  David was also an avid Houston sports team fan.  He was most often known for coaching from his recliner, with a Dr. Pepper in his hand, as he watched the Oilers, Astros, Rockets, and Texans.  David could often be found watching high school basketball, and he especially loved to attend the Texas Invitational Tournament.

David loved studying God’s Word and was always up for a good debate.  He enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of Sunday School class, men and women in the Word, and often spoke lovingly of its members.

David had many nicknames throughout his life.  You may have known him as Dave, Big Dave, Uncle Dave, or Dada.  No matter the name you used, he was a man of many words, strong opinions, far-fetched stories, and worked long hours to provide for his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Pomeroy and brother Donald.  He was survived by his wife of 45 years, Rhonda Pomeroy, daughter Stephanie Bailey and husband Stephen , son Derek Pomeroy, brother Mark Pomeroy and wife Pam, Jimmy Pomeroy and wife Alice, sister Brenda Barton and husband Craig, sister-in-law Marye Jones, brother-in-law Jimmy Jones and wife Mary, as well as numerous, nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.  The true joy of David’s life was his grandson, Cole and Cade Bailey.
