David Robert Scott
David Robert Scott, 58, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, July 16, 2016, after a brief illness. Born February 4, 1958, in Corpus Christi, Texas, David graduated from Richard King High School, and then The University of Texas at Austin earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He had a long and successful career in natural gas marketing most recently as a Manager of Special Projects with Direct Energy.
David was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Twyla Cerelle Scott, and father to his children, Kelly Louise Scott and Brian Robert Scott. David was proud of his daughter, Kelly, who is enrolled in a Physician Assistant program at the University of Colorado and his son, Brian, an accomplished tennis player who has enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a grandfather, “Papa” always enjoyed watching and playing with his granddaughter, Alison, especially when she wore Longhorn outfits, which he joyfully provided.
A resident of Houston and Sugar Land since his graduation, he was an active runner and avid tennis player. David and Twyla enjoyed frequent trips to participate in tennis camps and attend tournaments around the country. In May, David proudly ran in his 29th Beach to Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi. David was a long-time Longhorn football and Astros season ticket holder and enjoyed attending games with Twyla, family and friends. TUTS musical theatre productions and NHRA drag races were also favorite activities. David enjoyed nature and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Betsy (Allen) Scott and his niece, Erin Marie Scott. He is survived by his loving wife Twyla; children Kelly and Brian; step-daughters Melissa Peterson (John) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Kristen Matthews of Sugar Land; parents-in-law Floyd and Joyce Schiller of Denver, Colorado; brothers Gary (Debbie Jester) and Neal (Sally) of Houston, granddaughter Alison Peterson; and nephew Patrick Scott of Houston, and a large extended family and numerous cherished friends.
A celebration of David’s life will be held this Sunday, July 24, at 1:00 pm at The Foundry United Methodist Church, 8350 Jones Road, Houston, TX 77065.
