Daniel T. McClure
Daniel T. McClure, 71, of Louisville, KY, died July 9, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, TX. He was born on October 17, 1945 in Huntington, WV to Dewitt T. McClure and Carrie Holstein McClure. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Tony Castillos.
In 1974, he married Paulette Collins and had two daughters, Sydney and Sarah McClure.
Daniel graduated from Marshall University in 1969 with a BA in social studies. After college, he served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator with the VS29 Squadron in San Diego, CA.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Daniel flew in a variety of capacities - fighting fires as well as flying commercial and freight aircraft. After retiring from flying, he continued his career in aviation working at the FAA as a trainer and administrator until retirement.
In addition to his successful aviation career, Daniel was a life-long student of music, earning a BA in trombone performance in 1986 from the University of Northern Colorado. After graduation, he continued to play trombone and stayed involved in the musical community for the remainder of his life.
Mr. McClure is survived by his wife of 43 years, two daughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 22nd at the Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY. A gathering for friends and loved ones will be held afterwards in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions made to the West Louisville Talent and Education Center (the Blue House), a nonprofit providing free violin lessons to more than 200 disadvantaged students.
