Christine Greenwood

Christine Collins Greenwood was born April 13, 1939 in Bedias, Texas to Pearlene Haynes Collins and Rudolph Collins. She passed from this life February 18, 2019 in Texas City. On December 16, 1960 Christine united into marriage with Eugene Greenwood until his death in 2008. To their union, they were blessed with four children, Doris Woods, DonTonya, Aaron, and Devonya Greenwood. Christine was a graduate of Lincoln High School,

she went on to graduate from Texas Southern University as a seamstress. She used that talent to design and sew clothes, purses and crochet for several members of the family. Her love to care for others was always evident beginning as a child. She decided to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Christine received her LVN license from Galveston County Hospital and her RN degree from Galveston College. She worked at Mainland Hospital for over 40 years. Christine cared for many in need whether a patient in the hospital, a family member, a friend or a stranger she was sure to lend a helping hand.

She was called Poley by friends and family and was a great encourager. If you needed someone to sit with you when you were sick, she would sit with you. If you need a little money to make it through difficult times, she was happy to give you a few dollars. Her heart was always ready to give support. Christine was a loyal La Marque Cougars fan for over 20 years. Rain or shine near or far she was going to be at the game cheering them on or fussing if the referee made a bad call. She was an organizer, she began the Annual Black History program in Mainland Hospital. After retirement, she continued to organize the program until her health began to fail. The program is still being held the last Friday in February.
