On March 6, 1969 in Texas City, Texas, a beautiful, bouncing baby boy, Charles Douglas Jr., whom we lovingly called “Charlie” or “Junior” was born to Beverly DeLaney-Douglas and Charles Douglas, Sr. Charles was educated in LaMarque Public Schools and later became a student of the Arts at College of The Mainland in Texas City and Collins College in Arizona.
He had an innate talent in visual arts and music, receiving a very special award during his formative education years from TEA for his artwork. Charles was also the proud recipient of a Certificate of Completion in Acting at the Meisner School of Acting in addition to receiving the “Good Time Charlie Award” while residing in Los Angeles, CA.
Charles Douglas Jr., accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Four Corner Church in Los Angeles, CA., as he had a great love and desire to study and expound on the Word of The Lord that he shared with Uncles Rogers and Marvin. He later attended New Creation Church of God of Prophecy in Texas City, Texas, where He was a blessing, using his talents on programs at church. Charles had a love for his family and friends and community, and could be found volunteering, creating logos, drawings, and backdrops for his Aunt Darlene DeLaney’s classes at LaMarque I.S.D., participating in plays as well as writing music for the acoustic guitar and keyboard. His love for the Arts was immeasurable and will always be remembered.
Charles worked several years in the area of Security in Los Angeles, CA and as a carpenter’s assistant under the watchful eye of his Uncle Paul DeLaney upon returning to Texas until illness befell him.
On April 1, 2021, in Texas City, Tx., a bright sun shone through as Charles journeyed from earth to his heavenly home where he was met by Grandparents: Rogers DeLaney Sr., and Marian Thompson DeLaney; Thomas Nelson Douglas and Edrene Scott Douglas; Aunts: Maxine DeLaney Galloway, Uncles: Pastor Rogers DeLaney, Jr., and Pastor Marvin C. DeLaney, and Sanford J. Douglas.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, His loving and devoted mother, Beverly DeLaney Mitchell, and stepfather, Willie D. Mitchell, who had a strong, unapologetic and enduring love for his stepson; Father, Charles Douglas, Sr., and Brother, Cody Douglas; Great Great Aunt, Lois DeLaney Clark (Family Matriarch) of Hisperia, Ca.; Uncles: Paul S. DeLaney (Darlene), Tommy Mitchell (Shellie) of Detroit, Michigan; Aunts: Jewel DeLaney, Rita C. DeLaney Stewart (Larry Sr.); Tammie G. DeLaney, Hope Lane (Russell), Helen Douglas Whitaker (Roger), Tommie Lee Waldon , Janice Douglas Leggett (Jeffrey ) and Linda Hamilton, his lifelong friend, Ronnie “Rollo” Bennett; and devoted God Brother and God Sister, Gregory P. DeLaney and Alexandria R. DeLaney and a host of loving and devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Charlie will forever be remembered by all who knew him, for his kind and giving spirit.
