Charles Ritchie

     Charles Allison “Al” Ritchie, age 86, passed from this life on June 3, 2019, in Texas City, Texas.   Al was born to the union of William and Lillie Mae Ritchie in Mobile, Alabama, on November 12, 1932.

     Al served as a police office for the City of Galveston for six years and worked as a boilermaker, retiring after 32 years.  He was poker player for many years and was rated as one of the top 10 players of Texas Hold ‘Em.  He also enjoyed playing Dominoes and always invited visitors and guests to sit and play a round.

     Al is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Florence A. Ritchie; parents, William Harold and Lillie Mae Prescott Ritchie; twin brothers, Homer G. Ritchie and Omer H. Ritchie; sisters, Margie Allen and Voncille Koehler and father- and mother-in-law, Charles “Doodles” and Florence Feigle.

     Left to cherish his memory is Al’s daughter, Susan Irene Hamm and son-in-law, Charles Hamm, who was like a son to him; sister, Corrine Kral; very special friend, Moises Jaramillo, who was also like a son to him, and his wife, Alma and their four children; 14 nephews and three nieces,  numerous great-nephews and nieces and great-great-nephews and nieces.

     Al’s family wishes to recognize his special friends, Bart Jennings, Jr. and his late wife; Madelyn and the late Tom Pryor, Sr. and his wife, Jimmie; heartfelt gratitude and love to Moises Jaramillo for being Al’s caregiver during the sunset of his life and a support to Susan and Charles; thanks to Mr. Francisco Jaramillo for allowing Al to come to his home to be cared for during his final days; to Pastor Mario and Yolanda Gutierrez and the church family of New Journey Church in La Marque for their encouragement and support, as well as the caring doctors and nurses of Amed Hospice and Mainland Medical Center of Texas City.

     Serving as Active Pallbearers are Charles Hamm, Moises Jaramillo, Roger Starnes, Larry Carter, Victor Koehler and Ricky Koehler.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearer is Dale Carter, Jr. 

 

      The family will receive visitors from 5-8 PM on Friday, June 7, 2019 in the chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591.  Visitation and Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 9-11 AM.  Burial will follow at Hayes-Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
