Carl Dowell

Mr. Carl R Dowell passed from this life on Sunday, February 25,2018 at his home in Hitchcock, TX.  He is proceeded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lynn Dowell and brothers Bill and Vernon Dowell.

Born December 20,1937 to Iona Mizell and Vernon Orivall in Mishawaka, Indiana, Carl Dowell has been a resident of Hitchcock for the past 5 years, previously of Santa Fe. Carl is a veteran of the Korean war, spent a few years in Saudi Arabia in construction, and assisted with building the Galveston causeway. Carl previously worked at Disney World in Florida, helping build "It’s a Small World" and the "Tree House", he also worked as a truck driver with Caltex Citrus out of Houston, TX. He worked many years at Kitchen Collection with his sister and daughter. Carl loved reading, gardening, barbequing, riding his motorcycle and being called "papa" by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl also enjoyed attending worship service at Murphy's on HWY 6 with preacher Charlie Rolo.

Survivors include his three children, son, Carl R. "Dusty" Dowell II and wife Nancy of Crosby; daughters, Pamela S. Dowell, and fiancé John of Alvin, Michelle M. Smith and husband Gary of Alvin; two bonus daughters, Rebecca Ross of Harden and Yolanda Wilks of Santa Fe; brother, James Dowell of Santa Fe; sisters, Marlene Wittenwyler of Florida, Sherrie Spurgeon and husband Larry Spurgeon of La Marque;  grandchildren, Sylvia Riggs and husband Tim of Santa Fe, Ashley Anible and husband David of Michigan, Nicholas Fisher and fiancé Leah of Santa Fe, Haley Fisher and husband Daniel of Texas City, Kira Smith of Alvin, Thomas Smith of Alvin, and Reiley Dowell of Crosby; as well as, seven great-grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received at a visitation for Carl on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Carnes Funeral Home located at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591 beginning at 10:00am.  A Celebration of Life funeral service will follow at the funeral home beginning at 11:00am.  Preacher Charlie Rolo will officiate the service.
