Bibi Jameloon Cheong
Zamela “Bibi” Cheong was born on May 14, 1948 and raised in Georgetown, Guyana. She graduated from Guyana Oriental College and then pursued her further studies abroad. She passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the age of 63.
She is survived by her husband Walter Cheong, her son Rayman Alli, Daugther-In-Law Ganika , and her two grandchildren Aryana and Devin Alli. She is also survived by her siblings, Shamon, Hassan, Nazim, Zena, Rafeena, Shazida, and her mother Zaiboon Khan. She is also survived by her three wonderful step children Egan, Tonia, Kenrick & grandaughter Olivia Cheong.
She came from a family who valued discipline and respect above all. It would be an understatement to say her dedication as a wife and mother is unsurpassed. While raising her son she started attending college in New York and was hired as a secretary for Mobil Oil Corporation. Shortly after, she met her equally hardworking husband of 34 years, Walter.
Zamela and Walter moved to Texas in 1980 and built a fruitful life for their family. She was a firm believer in achieving success through education. She went on to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Houston Clear Lake, a testament of her character and determination. Zamela climbed the ladder of success and retired from the ExxonMobil Corporation after 30 years of loyal service.
She was an avid reader who enjoyed epic novels. She loved to dance till the sun came up and take long walks on the seawall in Galveston. After retiring she continued to travel around the world and relished the time spent with her loved ones. An inspiration to all who knew her, Zamela treated everyday like it was a gift from God and her beautiful life was a gift to us all.
I truly want to thank her brothers, sisters and everyone else who supported Walter & I through this trying time. We love you all and you will forever be in our thoughts and prayers!
