Belle Louise Ostermeyar - Kenney
Belle Louise Ostermeyar was born in Galveston, Texas on April 20th, the year the 1915 Hurricane hit Galveston, TX to Henry August and Emmie Ostermeyar.
She was the youngest of nine children. “Honey Girl”, as her Pappa lovingly called her, lived on Galveston Island for 93 years, until she was rescued from the flood waters of Hurricane Ike in 2008, and displaced to the mainland. It was her desire to be returned to her beloved island where her great-grandfather and grand father had arrived on a Bark called Louis, from Württemberg which is now called Germany.
Belle is preceded in death by husband, John Kelso Kenney; sons, John Louis Sr., Donald Thomas Sr., and Ronald Lloyd, Sr., all of her siblings, and a grand child, “Little” Ronnie.
She is survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, at least one great-great grandchild of her namesake, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other family members.
Belle loved family! She always had kind words of encouragement, wisdom and a sharp wit for all who knew her. She was called by many endearing names: Mama Belle, Grannie Belle, Aunt Belle, and Lady Belle. She will be remembered profoundly in the hearts of the many lives she touched throughout her vibrant life. Belle was truly an amazing woman, an innovative thinker, and a wealth of wisdom and strength until the day she died.
The family will greet visitors Thursday, August 14th from 12-2pm with a 2pm Memorial Service to follow at Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, 77591.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Belle Louise Ostermeyar Kenney would like all of us to give more love to those who cross our paths.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the girls of Laurel House and Hallmark Hospice.
