Audrey Norling Peterson
Audrey Peterson (nee Mary Audrey Norling) moved on from this life on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her home in Houston, Texas at the age of 90. She died peacefully in her sleep while holding hands with her beloved husband, Bob.
Audrey was born June 21st, 1927 in Hunters, Washington and grew up on a farm close to the Columbia River Basin in Cedonia. She grew up a crack shot, fishing, farming, and ferociously independent. When she graduated from high school, she put herself through college graduating from Washington State College in Pullman in 1949. After college she worked in Spokane, living with a life-long friend, Norma Hunt. Audrey met Bob on a blind date and they were married December 27, 1952.
Bob and Audrey were intrepid travelers and found themselves living and working in Iran with two young children in tow. She had a daughter a short while later and carved out a life for her family in a place far-distant from her childhood. Tremendously loving of her family and loyal to her friends, she learned how to flourish as an “expat”. She sheltered people in her home when they evacuated from Libya and kept in touch with friends and family that dotted the world. Audrey and Bob traveled the globe with 3 young children, crossing the Atlantic on propeller planes, driving trips through Norwegian fjords and along the coast of Normandy, seeing Grecian ruins and the remains of the Roman empire. Audrey could remember every place and date by the exotic food she had while Bob remembered all the art the family saw in museums. Those conversations about meals, friends, and great art persisted to the end. Audrey learned to be a stellar cook and loved to entertain. She was also a world class bridge player and loved playing cards with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Peterson and her children Jeffrey Peterson (Teresa), Andrew Peterson (Diane) and Annette Hasbrook (Peter). Audrey was proud of her five grandchildren; Joshua, Laura, Craig, Jason and John; and adored her great-granddaughter Chloe.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Catherine Norling, her brother Bernard and his wife Mary, and her daughter-in-law, Leta Peterson.
