Arnold Leonard Valdez, Sr.
Arnold Leonard Valdez, Sr., passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at the age of 70. He was born in Texas City, Texas, to Albert U. Valdez, Sr. and Lucy Sanchez. He came from a family of 17 siblings that were a big part of his life.
Arnold had 17 siblings and his family was a significant part of his life. He grew up at 123 Texas Avenue in Texas City, right off the waters of Galveston Bay. He and his siblings often had their own baseball and football games, consisting solely of themselves. They would climb the ‘Shale Pile’ and enjoy playing in the water, and ate plenty of fresh fish growing up. Arnold is a twin and his siblings included 3 other sets of twins. Arnold loved the water and loved to fish. It was because of his love for the water and desire to travel that he joined the United States Navy. In Texas City, Arnold could be found on the Texas City Dike, fishing at his favorite ‘secret’ fishing spot, or riding his bicycle. Arnold was an excellent dancer and loved to dance. He enjoyed listening to soul music. He was a sharp-dressed man and had a special place in the heart of his mother and grandmother. A loving and affectionate man, Arnold would always greet you with a smile and a hug. Arnold was a member of the Local 681 Cement Finishers’ Union.
Arnold is survived by his wife Elizabeth Valdez; son Arnold Leonard Valdez, Jr.; grandchildren, Alyssa and Adian Valdez; step-daughters Elizabeth Brown, Elisha Diaz, Sheila Diaz and Breanna Menard; 12 step-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Valdez, Arthur Valdez, Sergio Valdez, Joe Valdez (Sylvia), Luis, Valdez; sisters, Elva Huizar (Lupio), Zelma Valdez, Aileen Ramber (Andrew), twin sister Adelpha Moya (Larry), Sonia Valdez, Elizabeth Oliver, Linda Marquez (Julian); Step-mother, Isabel Valdez.
Visitation will be in the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591 on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 2-3pm. Arnold's Celebration of Life Service will take place from 3-4pm. Burial will take place at Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 11:15am.
