Andrew Melvin Moncrief
Andrew Melvin (Mel) Moncrief of Montgomery, Texas, died March 25, 2016. He requested his remains be cremated in a private service.
Mr. Moncrief was born in Dallas, Texas, March 12, 1929. His parents, Olen Ray Moncrief and Jane Ophelia McKeever Moncrief, predeceased him January 1960 and September 1990, respectively. Mr. Moncrief received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1951 and his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in January 1966. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Security Agency 1951-1953.
Mr. Moncrief’s lifetime career was in the domestic and international petroleum exploration and production industry in engineering, management and executive positions and as a petroleum consultant. He was a professional petroleum engineer registered in Texas and Louisiana, attorney at law, arbitrator, mediator and member of The State Bar of Texas.
Community obligations included serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of South Texas College of Law (1977-1993) and of the Houston International Hospital for two years. He also served as a Director of the Montgomery County Dispute Resolution Center and volunteer mediator.
Mr. Moncrief is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Linnie Marie Carter Moncrief, their three children, Susan Lynn Moncrief Tipton and her husband, Robb Eric Tipton, Robert Alan Moncrief and his wife, Deborah Sagebiel Moncrief, James Ray Moncrief and his wife, Charlotte Ann Lunsford Moncrief, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. We will miss him.
