Alice Ann Carle Blackburn, 89, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017. She was fondly known as Carle to friends, as Ann to family and as GiGi to her great-grandchildren. Ann was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was reared in San Antonio, Texas.
She married Victor Martin Blackburn on October 16, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galveston, TX. They built a home and raised two adopted children in La Marque, TX, where they resided for more than 60 years. Ann was a devoted member of La Marque Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, a registered nurse at the Monsanto hospital and worked as a teacher of religion at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Ann is preceded in death by her grandparents, Duvolson Louis Carle, Alice Carle, Thomas Hart and Sophronia Purcelley Nichols-Hart; her parents, Louis is Marvin Carle and Clara Walden Hart-White; her adopted sons, Mark Blackburn and Colin Blackburn, and her husband of 62 years, Victor Martin Blackburn.
Ann is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Stacie and Brian Shaffer of Syracuse, UT, Joshua and Alissa Blackburn of Santa Fe, TX, and Erica Blackburn James and Mike James of Texas City, TX; her great-grandchildren, Kenneth Blackburn, Austin, Andrew, Kameron and Evaline Shaffer, Cessie Marks, Zane and Xaida Blackburn, Karley and Porter James, and her great-grand-pets, especially Copper.
A special thanks to Joe Wilkinson, Lea Yarborough, Marian Wilks Rye, Amanda Deleon, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Friendship Haven for their love, care, and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ann’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
Graveside Services will be 1:30 pm, Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Hayes Grace Memorial Park, Hitchcock, TX.
